Pascal A.T. Baltzer´s painting tries to hold reality: the immanent and the transcendent. Seemingly sleek and cool portraits of people from diverse backgrounds, some of them fictional, hint at human insecurity, nostalgia, conflict, sickness, lust, despair, hope. Space is a recurrent sujet, not in a spatial sense, but in the meaning of courage, curiosity and self-sufficiency in the face of isolation, uncertainty and the unknown. His art addresses the fragile edges of our existence, drifting between science and mysticism, it is filled with curiosity, awe for life and playful symbolism. His devices are as crude as our understanding of the inner self: a paint roller is his favorite tool. Pascal Baltzer lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
